Why Did I Select VR As a Concept?

(Video #5)

Now that we have discussed the concept of VR and its applications within the Hospitality Industry, I would like to discuss how this concept relates to myself. As mentioned in the video above, VR has the incredible ability to connect with a customer on a level that is far more intimate than other media is capable of.  As a worker within the tourism industry of New Orleans, being able to capitalize on this as a means of connecting with customers will be a major opportunity for the myself as a means of growing and developing a unique role that can set myself apart from others.

Indeed, the knowledge of the benefits of VR can be a considerable strength for myself if I wish to move into marketing and help establish VR as a means to promoting business. It would be a unique opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of VR by developing a marketing campaign about the city of New Orleans and show off its many cultural and musical festivals from the perspective of an attendee.

The only thing that I would need to be wary of as a potential weakness with VR is that the technology, since it is still growing and developing with many different organizations creating their own software and hardware, could potentially be obsolete or inferior in a relatively short time. If I were looking to implement and utilize VR within a business, the danger of using outdated or inferior equipment next to a rival organization is a weakness that cannot be ignored.

In addition, although there is a sizable opportunity to oversee the implementation of VR as a means of expanding my value within the industry, there is the threat of other organizations and groups utilizing VR in the future and establishing themselves with the technology in a way that will be difficult to compete against. As the technology grows more commonplace and accessible, other businesses may move to implement this as part of their strategy and can threaten the opportunity to create a unique product that would distinguish itself amongst other businesses.
